Course Description
Competency is defined by most as “an ability or skill.” If we demonstrate competence in a certain area, we are demonstrating that we can perform that skill effectively. Competency testing in health care demonstrates to the medical and general publics that we are competent to perform skills. The sleep technologist and respiratory therapist are bot evaluated by a superior or peer with similar skills and training. The evaluation is generally task-oriented and menu-driven. These concepts and processes are discussed in this course. Additionally, competence testing may be a requirement by law, regulation and/or accreditation. Therefore, its importance and clear understanding is paramount.
